Data Collection Tools
Devices are features in SPC Works that enable external data collection and alarms. Gettings data into SPC Works is made easy with these devices.
SPC Works contains four types of data collection devices. These are (1) Serial, USB, RS232, RS485 Device (typically used with digital micrometers and gages), (2) Database Device
(3) OPC Read Device, and (4) Text File Device. The Serial/USB device allows SPC Works to collect data from a
serial (RS-232) or USB port (via serial to USB adaptor). The Database device allows SPC Works to collect data from almost any database, such as Excel, Microsoft
Access, MySQL, and more. The OPC Read device allows SPC Works to collect data from an OPC server. The Text File Device allows SPC Works to collect data from a text file. Each
device when operating will load data automatically into SPC Works.

Action devices (or alarms) are features in SPC Works that take automatic action when a process is out-of-spec,
or out-of-control. There are two types of action devices: (1) OPC Write Device,
and (2) Email device. The OPC Write device writes to a user specified OPC server item when a process
is out-of-spec, or out-of-control allowing the automated process to take the appropriate action. The Email device
sends an email to a specified address when the process is out-of-spec, or out-of-control so that the appropriate person is notified and may
take the immediate action.
