Part Settings

Introduction
Part settings such as statistical setting, tags, and part image may be set from the Part Settings dialog.

Part Settings Dialog
To edit part settings left-click the Project Setup icon located on the toolbar. This icon launches the Project Setup dialog.

The Project Setup dialog contains two windows. The left-hand-side (LHS) window contains all parts and devices within the project. The right-hand-side (RHS) window contains all variables for a selected part.

Part Settings
To edit part settings, select a part from the part list (left-hand side of the Setup dialog), then double-left click a part. The Part Settings window will appear.

Statistics
Sample size, subgroup type, and control rules may be specified by selecting the Statistical Settings tab.

Subgroup settings
Within the Subgroup Settings box, the subgroup size and variation type may be selected. Subgroup size is the number of samples per subgroup and variation type is used to select the type of control chart. Three types of charts are available: 1) Average Range (for Averange-Average Range control charts), 2) Standard Deviation (for Average-Standard deviation control charts), and 3) Individual (for Individual-Moving Range control charts i.e., subgroups of sample size equal to one).

Control Rules
Within the Control Rules box, various types of control runs may be activated. Control runs are a series of subgroups that meet the specified control rule, such as one subgroup outside three sigma units. The control rules are the rules used to determine process control. If none of the activated rules are violated then the process is determined to be controlled. However if any of the activated control rules are violated then the process is determined to be out-of-control.

Tags
Tags may be any type of information (numbers or letters) that is associated with a sample. For example perhaps it is important to record the name of the operator, or a machine number that corresponds to a particular data point. These data may later be used for advanced analysis such as analysis of variance (ANOVA), or to help identify associations or trends within the data. Tag data may be entered from the left-hand-side of the main window or from the Spreadsheet window.

To Add a tag to the project, select a check box from the Tags page. Up to five tags may be added to the project. To change the tag label, simply click the tag label and begin editing.

Part Image
Image windows are used to display schematics, drawings, blueprints, or any image alongside control charts and spreadsheets. Users may then visually confirm they are measuring the correct part feature, and prevent themselves from mistakenly entering the wrong data.

Part images appear in the Image window. To define a part image, select the Browse button from the Part Settings dialog and select any JPG, BMP, or PNG image (JPG, BMP, and PNG are the only available image formats).

Image windows may display a part image or a variable image. A variable image may be specified from the Variable Settings dialog, and a part image may be specified from the Part Settings dialog. The Image Window will default to the part image if specified. To default to the variable image, select the Use Variable Image check box from the variable settings dialog.
