Creating a Project
A project contains all data required to operate SPC Works. It includes
the data collected by the user for analyzing statistical process control as well as information required to locate files, locate images,
remember plotting styles, data collection device settings, the data collection sequence, alarm settings, etc.
Projects are organized in a hierarchy
consisting of parts, variables, and
data. The project contains all parts, each part contains a set of variables, and each variable contains data.
For example, a machine shop that is manufacturing cylinders and cubes analyzes the statistical control
of the cylinder length, cylinder diameter, and cube width. In this case the machinist would likely have created a project
containing two parts named 'Cylinder' and 'Square.' For the part 'Square' they would have created the variable 'Width',
and for the part 'Cylinder' the variables 'Length' and 'Diameter.'
For more information regarding Data Collection Devices and Alarms see
About Devices.
For more information regarding the Data Collection Sequence see
Data Collection Sequence.
To setup and/or edit parts, devices, and
variables left-click the Project Setup icon
located on the toolbar. This icon launches the Project Setup dialog.
The Project Setup dialog contains two windows. The left-hand-side (LHS)
window contains all parts, devices, and data collection sequence within the project. The right-hand-side (RHS)
window contains all variables for a selected part.
To add a part or device simply right-click in the LHS window and
select Add Part or Add Device from the popup menu.
To add a variable to a part simply left-click the appropriate part
and select Add Variable. Properties of parts, variables, and devices may be editted
by double-left-clicking the respective item.
To delete parts, devices, or variables simply right-click
the item you want to delete and select Delete from the popup menu.
Part, variable, data collection sequence, and device settings may be edited by right-clicking any part, device, data collection sequence, or variable and selecting Settings, or by
double-left-clicking the item. For more information regarding devices, alarms, the data collection sequence, parts, and variables settings see
About Devices and Alarms,
Data Collection Sequence,
Part Settings, and
Variable Settings.
